ETMM Printing Specifications

Mechanical Requirements
a. Bleeds and spreads: Extend ad area at least 3mm (1/8") outside trim, and keep crop marks outside live area. Keep live matter at least 3mm (1/8") from trim, head, foot and binding edge.

Digital materials: The most important guidelines for submitting ETMM digital ad materials are summarized below. To download a detailed PDF file covering these guidelines plus instructions on creating a Postscript file and creating a PDF document from a Postscript file, right-click the link below. Choose Save target as... in Microsoft Internet Explorer or Save link as... in Netscape Navigator.

Formats: Digital files may be submitted in any of the following formats. Regardless of format, please note our requirements on supplying guidance proofs (see below).

Quark Xpress (.qxd4, .qxd5)

  • For Macintosh
  • Include all imported graphic files, images and fonts
  • Images should be scanned at minimum 300dpi (CYMK), saved as .tif or .eps files, and supplied separately

Adobe Pagemaker (.p65, .pm7)

  • For Macintosh
  • Include all imported graphic files, images and fonts
  • Images should be scanned at minimum 300dpi (CYMK), saved as .tif or .eps files, and supplied separately

Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand (.ai8, .ai9, ai10, .fh8, .fh9, .fh10)

  • Files must be exported to EPS format (.eps), for Mac or PC
  • Text must be converted into graphics
  • Images should be scanned at minimum 300dpi (CYMK), saved as.tif or .eps files, and embedded in EPS file;
    images should also be supplied separately as .tif or .eps files

Adobe Photoshop

  • Must be saved as .psd, .eps, .tif, or .jpg file (quality ratio: maximum), for Mac or PC, CYMK mode
  • Resolution minimum 300dpi

Adobe Acrobat (.pdf)

  • For Mac or PC, in CYMK mode, 1200dpi
  • All images must be embedded (not linked) using .tif, .eps or .jpg files, minimum 300dpi
  • Embed all fonts

Sending files: Files may be sent either by upload to our FTP server (see below), by e-mail, or by courier or post.

Uploading files: please note these instructions for copying files to our FTP server.

  • In your Web browser or FTP software, go to ftp://193.26.242.5
  • For user name (Benutzername), enter: etmmguest
  • For password (Kennwort), enter: 2etGF8ab
  • You can copy any file on your hard drive to this server by using drag or drop, or by copying and pasting
  • For identification, each file name should include the name of the advertiser (e.g., Delcam_logo.eps)
  • Please always use file extensions (.jpg, .gif, .doc, .eps, .p65, etc.) to indicate the type of file
  • After uploading, please notify Ms. Sylvia Hottes, tel. +49 6122 95590 or shottes@tool-moldmaking.com
  • Once a file has been uploaded to our server, it cannot be opened, modified, renamed, downloaded, or deleted

Film materials: While digital materials are preferred, film is acceptable with a conversion charge of €25 ($30). Please note our requirements on supplying guidance proofs (see below).

Film format: Please supply film as offest film positives (right-reading, emulsion-side down). Negatives also accepted.

  • For black and white or 2-colour ads, 133 screen recommended, 120 screen acceptable; for 4-colour ads, 133 screen recommended.
  • Charges will apply for materials requiring alterations, conversion (e.g. negative to positive), compositing, reducing or enlarging.
  • Screen density for 4-colour process ads: 280% recommended, 300% acceptable (maximum).
   

Sending films: Film materials must be separately slip-sheeted, securely packed and protected to prevent scratching, puncture or folding during shipment. Do not fold across image area on progressive proofs. Send printing materials, proofs and copy material to:

Film storage: Film is stored by publisher for 12 months and then destroyed unless advised otherwise in writing by advertiser or its agency.
   
d. Guidance proofs: For 4-colour advertising, supply one match print, chromolin, high-quality laser printout, or other similar proof with colour bars on publication-quality proofing stock. Full comprehensive and progressive proofs are also acceptable. Charges may be incurred for materials without the appropriate colour guidance proofs.

Publisher cannot be held responsible for any colour deficiencies or errors in printed ads for which guidance proofs were not supplied.

Banner Ad Specifications
 

These are specifications for banner ads to be displayed on this website, tool-moldmaking.com, or in the ETMM Weekly Newsletter.

  • Size: 468 pixels wide x 60 pixels high (website banner)
           468 pixels wide x 60 pixels high (newsletter top banner)
           120 pixels wide x 240 pixels high (newsletter side banner)
     
  • Screen resolution: 72 dpi
     
  • File formats: GIF, JPG, or Flash SWF for the website; only GIF or JPG for the ETMM Weekly Newsletter
     
  • File size: As small as possible, but in any case less than 30K
     
  • Link: If you supply a GIF or JPG, please tell us separately the URL address to which it should link. If you supply a SWF, the URL should be inserted inside the file, and it should open the linked website in a separate new window.
     
  • If the background of the banner is white, there should be a black or coloured border around the banner, at least 1 pixel wide.
