17 February 2010 From Special New Website, SPE Delivers Technical Briefs
SPE PRO (for Plastics Research Online), a new free on-line service from the Society of Plastics Engineers Inc. (SPE), provides a regularly updated selection of professionally edited technical briefs on key aspects of plastics technology and polymer science. At least 80 briefs at a time will be posted and readable by all site visitors. Tom Conklin, SPE’s director of marketing and sales, points out that SPE members will be able to access exclusively many more briefs archived in the site’s Online Technical Library. The 80 briefs posted at the public site will be regularly refreshed with weekly additions. Users can have the papers delivered to their desktops or to mobile devices via e-mail, RSS feed or Twitter. “SPE encourages everyone—SPE member or not—to take advantage of this new resource for competitiveness and professional advancement,” says Conklin. “All of the briefs to be posted will be based on technical papers and journal articles prepared by experts and professionally edited for clarity and ease of understanding.” The initial list of categories in which briefs will be available includes applied rheology, bioplastics, engineering properties, extrusion, failure analysis, injection moulding and plastics nanotechnology. “We expect to have at least a dozen briefs at a time posted in each of these categories, and we may well add categories in the future,” notes Conklin. The briefs currently on-line can be viewed at www.4spepro.org or accessed via a Plastics Research Online link in the Technical Resources section on SPE’s website home page. They can be browsed by title or subject. Links and prompts are available to enable site visitors to subscribe for e-mail, RSS, or Twitter updates. SPE is partnering with Wiley InterScience on this new service. For further information: Society of Plastics Engineers Inc. (SPE)
