14 October 2009 Programme for Special ISF Grinding Seminar at METAV Set
February 25 will be a special day for grinding specialists at the METAV 2010 trade fair in Düsseldorf, Germany. On that day, the Institute of Machining Technology (ISF) of Dortmund puts on a special grinding seminar consisting of 13 presentations to be delivered by experts from the industrial sector and the academic community. The ISF has organized its seminar into three keynote topics: “Machine and Environment,” “Tools” and “Processes.” The first section focuses on development goals and challenges for grinding machine manufacture and some typical practical applications. The Tools section addresses new tool concepts, the production of hard-metal tools from the perspective of cooling-lubricant utilization, and the machining of defined surfaces with polishing tools. In the keynote section on processes, present-day grinding technologies, their applications and process design challenges will be discussed. “Our event is designed as a very compact tried-and-tested vehicle for informing people about the status of development work, current approaches, and the practical implementation of the most recent findings in grinding technology” explains Prof. Dirk Biermann, director of the ISF. In addition to the grinding seminar, the ISF will be represented at METAV 2010 by a special show entitled “Grinding Technology and Fine Machining.” Here, a diverse array of exhibitors will provide an overview of ongoing trends and developments in the grinding and fine machining fields. “An exciting exchange of knowledge and empirical feedback between the industrial sector and the research community is indispensable for ensuring technological progress in Germany for the future as well,” says Biermann with conviction. The varied programme of the seminar and related special show is designed to provide fertile ground for stimulating discussions and personal contacts. Companies wishing to take part in the special show should contact Tobias Heymann. Companies that have questions regarding the grinding seminar should get in touch with Evelyn Würz.
