4 November 2009 Kennametal Names Widia Products Group Vice President
To focus on providing improved metal-cutting products and services to customers worldwide, Kennametal Inc. has moved all of its current brands of metal-cutting tools and tooling systems into two portfolios: Widia Products Group and Kennametal Products Group. Bernie McConnell has been named vice president for Widia. McConnell, who has been serving Kennametal as vice president for global MSSG marketing, will be responsible for products and services in his role as head of the Widia group. “These are exciting times as we continue building the strength of the Widia Products Group and its many solutions for manufacturers worldwide,” McConnell says. “This includes North American companies who may be new to these products and those worldwide for which Widia is synonymous with leading technology.” The Widia Products Group will include the Widia, Hanita, Rübig, Manchester, Clapp-DiCo, Greenfield Tap & Die and Circle brands. KM and Erickson tooling systems will be available through both the Kennametal Products Group and the Widia Products Group. McConnell has more than 15 years of professional experience in marketing product management, market segment management, and manufacturing at Kennametal. Under his leadership, new product sales have climbed from 18% five years ago to 45% today, while the number of stockkeeping units has been reduced by more than half over the past three years. The Widia VP holds university degrees in industrial engineering (BS) and business management (MBA). Widia products and services have represented innovation in the metal-cutting industry for more than 80 years, from the world’s first patent for carbide indexable inserts to the development of the world’s first coated grades. The Widia brand offers a complete portfolio of precision-engineered products and custom solution services.
