15 November 2006 EuroMold Workshop on Tool/Mould Making
At EuroMold 2006 in Frankfurt, on Thursday, November 30, an expert workshop on tool and mould making will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. This is a first-ever joint event organized by the EuroMold management firm DEMAT with the toolmaking division of VDMA, the German industry federation, in order to promote the German toolmaking industry. Six papers will be delivered at this event, to be held at the Frankfurt Fairgrounds in conjunction with the EuroMold world fair for mould making and tooling, design, and application development. Themes both technical and economic are highlighted. On the technical side, Dr. Konrad Wissenbach of the Fraunhofer-Institut for Laser Technology (ILT) will discuss taking a lead in toolmaking through innovative laser technology, Henning Klempp of Fibro GmbH will examine standardization in mould making through the use of gas springs, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Diethard Thomas of Fette GmbH will support the contention that “Micromills Do Not Mill at All!” With his paper on reducing life-cycle costs and optimizing unit costs through the use of high-performance tool steels in making moulds for plastics, Marc Geile of Böhler-Uddeholm Deutschland GmbH carries the focus on technology into the realm of business success and profitability. Hubert Waltl of Audi AG, who serves as president of the VDMA Toolmaking Division, begins the workshop by considering the question of whether the German toolmaking industry can survive in the world market, while Martin Bock of the aachener werkzeug und formenbau invites companies to compare themselves with their competition in terms of the concept of “Excellence in Production.” Participation in the workshop is free for all EuroMold visitors who hold a valid entrance ticket to the international fair.
