6 November 2009 Kern Technical Open House Partakes of Oktoberfest Culture
During Munich’s Oktoberfest, the Bavarian machine tool manufacturer Kern Micro- und Feinwerktechnik GmbH & Co. KG staged its 2009 “Precision Days” as a technical Wiesn. This term is the Munich public’s nickname for its special seasonal festivity. Hearty Bavarian food and Kern’s technological innovations were available to sample. While enjoying traditional culinary specialties, visitors to the event, held in Kern’s manufacturing facility, had the opportunity to talk shop about new machines and applications, of which Kern had plenty to offer. Kern staff members wore traditional Bavarian dress, musical entertainment was offered, and the new Kern Triton machining centre was introduced with fireworks, but the guests also had plenty of access to serious information about the host company’s recent innovations. “It is astonishing what new engineering feats Kern has brought forward this year,” says company owner Eckhard Alschweig. “Despite the rough economy, three new developments—the Kern Triton machining centre, the automated manufacturing cell ER6 and the microtool inspector Kern µ-view, were brought to market.” In a joint venture with its cooperation partners Zeiss and Open Mind, Kern presented its latest developments and applications to Precision Days attendees right on the plant floor. A special highlight was the live manufacturing of a customer order on a compact new automation unit consisting of a machining centre and the robot cell Kern Evo Robotic 6. The customers on hand were able to view live practical demonstrations of all Kern machine models. “The feedback from our international guests was overwhelming, and their interest in our products very concrete,” reports Kern managing director Rudi Riedel. “The trend has been confirmed that investments are again being made since midyear.” For further information: Kern Micro- und Feinwerktechnik GmbH & Co.
