17 November 2009 Dyson Director to Be Keynoter for PDM10 Conference
Next year’s Plastics Design and Moulding Exhibition and Conference—PDM10—has confirmed that Sir Richard Needham, international and commercial director at Dyson, will be the keynote speaker at the event’s Moulding Business Debate. PDM10 will take place May 18–20 at the Telford International Centre in Telford, UK. The PDM10 Conference, a production of the Plastics News Global Group owned by the plastics industry publisher Crain Communications Inc., will address the hottest topics in the UK plastics industry today, from product design and manufacturing innovation to wider business issues. Needham’s keynote will address the question of how to compete effectively in a global market. The distinguished speaker will draw on his extensive experience at Dyson, where he led the company initiative to begin manufacturing in China. “’New Knowledge, New Business’ is the underlying theme of the PDM10 event, and we are strengthening the conference programme this year as part of a package of measures that will ensure our exhibitors and visitors can fully realize this theme,” explains Steve Crowhurst, the event director. “Sir Richard’s in-depth knowledge of some of the biggest issues facing the UK plastics design and moulding industry today means that he is uniquely well placed to deliver the keynote to our Moulding Business Debate.” Sir Richard Needham is responsible for developing Dyson’s manufacturing and sales operations in Europe, the United States and the Far East. Formerly a Conservative MP, he served as Michael Heseltine’s deputy at the Department of Trade and Industry, where he was credited with reinvigorating export strategy. Aside from his role at Dyson, Needham chairs Avon Rubber and serves as vice chairman of NEC Europe. The 2010 edition of the PDM Conference introduces an innovation: for the first time, the conference arena will be located within the exhibition hall, to allow for easier access and interchange between the conference and exhibition.
