30 October 2006 GibbsCAM Now Certified for Solid Edge
UGS has approved GibbsCAM® CNC machine tool programming software, developed by the US-based company Gibbs and Associates, as a Certified Select Product for its Solid Edge® CAD system. In announcing the certification, Gibbs and Associates noted that it demonstrates the two companies’ ongoing commitment to work together to provide best-in-class CAD/CAM solutions. GibbsCAM customers now have the choice of reading Solid Edge model files directly or transferring models from within their Solid Edge session directly to GibbsCAM using the Solid Edge–to-GibbsCAM part-transfer add-in. The add-in is included free with each GibbsCAM release, and can also be downloaded from the on-line support section on the GibbsCAM website. The certification process, which is part of the Solid Edge Voyager Partner Programme, required the completion of extensive test procedures using Solid Edge Version 19. The rigorous tests exercised the integration between Solid Edge and GibbsCAM so as to ensure a continuing high-level of interoperability between the latest versions of the two software applications. “Working directly with Solid Edge, we were able to maintain a high level of interoperability between our products,” says Bill Gibbs, founder and president of Gibbs and Associates. “As a result, the Solid Edge/GibbsCAM combination continues to deliver value and performance to customers, allowing them to maximize their productivity and efficiency.” Full associativity between Solid Edge geometry, the process, and the tool path enables GibbsCAM to accommodate design model changes and update associated machining processes. Changes to process parameters involving, for example, tooling, speeds, or feed rates also can be accepted easily at any time. Because GibbsCAM and Solid Edge are both based on the Parasolid modelling kernel, they evaluate the model exactly the same way. This ensures that the part geometry will be machined exactly as designed, resulting in a highly accurate finished product. For further information: Gibbs and Associates
