30 September 2009 Alltec GmbH Acquires Foba Technology + Services GmbH
Alltec GmbH, a manufacturer of laser systems for marking and coding, has acquired Foba Technology + Services GmbH, a specialist in precision lasers for marking and engraving. The legally recognized merger brings together companies with more than 65 years of combined experience in laser marking and engraving. Foba, headquartered in Lüdenscheid, Germany, will become part of the Alltec Laser Business Unit, which is the technology centre for laser marking within the US-based Danaher Corp.’s Product Identification Platform. The acquisition of Foba provides synergistic benefits on both sides. Alltec has, for 25 years, been an international market and technology leader in the development and manufacture of laser marking solutions. The Foba product line neatly expands the Alltec portfolio, immediately creating one of the market’s broadest product ranges in laser identification technology. This comprises systems ready for integration into production lines, stand-alone workstations, and engraving machines specialized for tool and mould making and medical technology. Also, sales and service will be pooled and broadened within Danaher’s global network, enhancing the companies’ closeness to their customers. Thus, the acquisition furthers Alltec’s growth in the part and component marking sector, while, according to Kevin Quinlan, Foba’s vice president for sales, Foba can better satisfy the needs and demands of its global customers in the automotive, electronics, electrical engineering, semiconductor, machine building, and tool and mould making industries. According to Theo Ostendorf, Foba managing director, the consolidation with Alltec is part of a “positive development.” Says Ostendorf, “Within Danaher’s Product Identification Platform, Foba becomes part of one of the major suppliers of industrial product identification systems.
