Plastics Industry Looks Forward to
New Conference on Performance Additives

Performance Additives 2004, a first-time conference to be held September 8–10 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, will look at new developments in additives for polymers and how they can enhance product performance and value.

Processors are increasingly seeking enhanced processing or performance characteristics for their products in order to add value and create a competitive edge. Performance Additives 2004 is designed to provide an opportunity for the compounding and plastics processing industry to explore recent technical improvements for a variety of additive products and find out how they can improve functionality and add value to the finished product.

In addition to in-depth technical discussions, the conference—which is organized by Applied Market Information LLC—will also cover important business issues for the additive and plastics industry such as value-added strategies, market trends, the impact of imports, and how to protect intellectual property rights in this cutting-edge area.

"Performance Additives 2004 is an opportunity for industry participants to learn more about recent developments but also to think about the ways it can be used to create further performance and value", explains conference manager Margit Korsak.

A review of the market for plastics additives will be addressed by John McChesney of Albemarle Corporation, while Brian McKinley of Ampacet Corporation will look at the advances of performance additives.

Key papers will look in detail at value added plastics applications for talc, metal fiber additives in ESD and EMC plastics applications, developments in antifogging, and oxygen scavenging technology for flexible packaging applications.

There will also be presentations from 3M Dyneon, Great Lakes Chemical Co., Kenrich Petrochemicals, Eastman Chemical Co., Clariant Corp., and Ciba SC. The event will be concluded by an overview of the challenges to the global plastics additives business by Andrew Reynolds of Applied Market Information.
