Six months after Husky introduced a 144-cavity mold into the realm of preform production, the company is enjoying the best kind of endorsement for the new product: a steady stream of orders.
"We are very pleased that the first 144-cavity systems have already proven themselves to such an extent that many of our customers are placing repeat orders," says Husky general manager Randy Yakimishyn.
To date, Husky has received orders for more than 30 of the molds with applications ranging from 12.4 to 27.8 g and cycles as fast as 9.5 sec. More than half of the orders have included G600PET machines. The molds incorporate Husky's Micropitch stack design, which makes it possible to fit 144 cavities in a machine that could previously accommodate no more than 96. The result is a gain in output of close to 50%.
The 144-cavity mold is also the first to incorporate Husky's new UltraPET hot runner technology. The hot runners feature a leakproof design, a reduction in PET dust generation, and a more even thermal profile throughout the system. In addition, UltraPET hot runners are expected to extend typical maintenance intervals to as much as two years. Proven options available with Husky's Micropitch molds to further improve output include a three-position take-off plate, CoolJet technology, and optical part detection.
