3 December 2005 Sescoi Rolling Out New CAD/CAM Release
A record number of WorkNC CAD/CAM system customers attended a series of October presentations staged across France by the programme developer Sescoi International SAS. The purpose of the events was to introduce the wealth of new productivity-enhancing functions and features becoming available with WorkNC Version 18. This latest release of the CAD/CAM package will be phased into the market over the next six months. The date of introduction varies depending on the country. Sescoi’s presentations included a live demonstration on a Huron KX10 machine of WorkNC V18’s innovative Adaptive Troichoidal Roughing tool path for hard-materials milling. This was accompanied by an account of the results of tests run by Cetim, the French technical centre for the mechanical industries, using WorkNC V18 functionalities. Cetim revealed that WorkNC’s enhanced Auto 5 functionality, which automatically converts 3-axis tool paths into 5-axis paths, dramatically reduced programming times and provided reliable automatic collision avoidance. Cetim also attested to the smoothness of WorkNC’s new Spiral Core Roughing and Adaptive Troichoidal Roughing tool paths. In addition, Gilles Pernoud, managing director of the Georges Pernoud Co., a leading plastic injection mould maker from France’s Plastics Valley region, described how his company, through the use of WorkNC Version 18, was able to significantly exceed its objective of using a minimum of 80% machining capacity over seven days. Pernoud testified that the company also saw an enhancement of the quality of part finishes. Many of the V18 innovations introduced to Sescoi’s customers through the series of presentations were the result of direct feedback from customers who were surveyed earlier this year. In addition to the new tool paths for hard-materials milling, the enhancements include dynamic collision management for 3-axis roughing and reroughing tool paths, new Spiral Core Roughing, optimized finishing tool paths, numerous 5-axis developments, and a new, easy-to-use, integral 2/4-axis Wire EDM module.
