The Art of Plastics Design To Be
Focus of Berlin Conference in October

The plastics and rubber consultancy and industry information services provider Rapra Technology Ltd. has announced the programme for the first international Art of Plastics Design conference, which will be held in Berlin October 18–19, 2005. The organizer intends the conference to bring together designers, manufacturers, plastics engineers, and end users, along with producers of innovative plastics materials.

Plastics are highly versatile materials, offering many design options through their ease of processing and decorating. Special effects, including soft touch, decorative films, scents, and striking colours, can be incorporated and extravagant shapes created so that even the most utilitarian items can look like art. Effects like these are much cheaper to achieve with plastics than other materials such as metals. Plastics support design innovations in many markets. This new conference covers everything from the idea to the product, and provides an opportunity to network and discover fresh ideas for designing with plastics.

The Art of Plastics Design 2005 kicks off Tuesday morning with an address of welcome from Richard Walton of Rapra Technology. Conference sessions that first day cover the creative design process, appeals to the senses, plastics in design, and design of medical devices and other products. On Wednesday, conference-goers can learn about special effects; colours, materials, and finishes; and the interface between design and manufacturing. Sessions run throughout the morning and afternoon both days, with coffee and lunch breaks.

The conference will take place at the Alsterhof Hotel in Berlin, Germany. A limited number of high-profile cost-effective sponsorship opportunities are available for companies wishing to maximize their corporate profile at the event. A small tabletop exhibition is being organized to run alongside the conference.

For attendees, an early-bird registration discount is in effect through August 17.
